Dr. Courtney brings experience from more than a decade engaged in independent school education. Prior to teaching at both the high school and undergraduate levels, Dr. Courtney was a research neuroscientist. She weaves her passion for brain development into the classroom and the stage on a daily basis. Utilizing her trademark energy and humor, Dr. Courtney connects with adolescents, helping them view difficult topics through a new lens. She has expertise presenting on topics including vaping, drug & alcohol awareness, and video game & social medial addiction.

In a 35-60 minute interactive talk geared toward high school and/or middle school students, Dr. Courtney will detail the chemicals found in a variety of e-cigarette brands and explain the neurological impact of each. She will explain the current scientific literature regarding why the teenage brain is particularly susceptible to nicotine addiction.

What signs of nicotine addiction should you look out for in your students? What are the risks associated with e-cigarettes? How do they impact neurodevelopment of the teenage brain?
